Plein Air at the Arboretum is open to all 2-d artists of all levels.

Registration fee is non-refundable.
Artists must wear their ID lanyards while painting on the premises.
Artists may paint on all four days, portions of each day, or just on Saturday, however, all artists are expected to be present on Saturday, September 21 during the festival and stay through the wet paint sale. Unsold artwork may be collected after 5 pm on Saturday, September 21.
Registration fee includes up to 3 stamped supports. Additional supports can be stamped for 5.00 each. Supports will be stamped on site each day starting Wednesday 9-27 until Friday, 9-20. All registrants must have their supports stamped, whether or not they plan on submitting work into the wet paint competition, sale and exhibit, or quick draw competition.
Finished artwork entered into the wet paint sale and exhibit must be for sale. A 30% commission will be collected by Blandy . Artists will receive 70% of the sale. All proceeds from this event will go to The Foundation of the State Arboretum. Checks will be issued by Foundation of the State Arboretum within a reasonable time frame, typically 3-4 weeks after the event.
Suggested price for paintings submitted to the Wet Paint Sale should start at $200..00 for 8x10 and smaller.
Finished artwork must be framed or on cradled panels. Participants may submit up to two (2) plein air works into the Wet Paint sale and exhibition.
Artists must supply their own display easels for the Wet Paint sale. Standing easels are recommended. See information on display and exhibit.
Quick Draw paintings need not be framed to sell and/or exhibit.
While utmost care will be taken in handling artwork, Blandy Experimental Farm, Virginia State Arboretum, event organizers and event volunteers will not be held liable for loss or damage to any artwork at any point during the event.
All artists agree that images of their artwork may be used for event marketing and promotion on our websites and social media outlets.
All paintings must be painted completely en plein air on site at Blandy Experimental Farm during the days of the event, without the use of photography to assist in any way.
